In order to get a first impression of the city, we recommend to explore the city by feet - the distances are not so far and you amble along the sigths and so get to know the city.
Initial point is the Vienna main train station (Hauptbahnhof)...

leave the main exit of the main train station and go in the direction of the big street called "Gürtel", keep right and you can see the Castle Belvedere immediately - from the castle you get a frist view over Vienna

walk trough the Belvedergarden to the "Untere Belvedere"

turn left, pass the fountain Hochstrahlbrunnen and the French embassy throuth the Vienna Museum to the

Karlsplatz with St. Charles' Church and the Resselpark

take the cross-walk to the Wiener Musikverein (a orange/brown building) - there is that hall where the new years concert is broadcasted worldwide

passing the Musikverein and the Hotel Imperial till the Ringstraße, the boulevard of Vienna, there turn left and go along the Kärtner Ring till

the Vienna State Opera, amble the Ringstraße further till you come left to the Burggarden with the Hofburg and the Heldenplatz and right the cultural and natural historical museum,
